For years my husband, Misha
(our Siberian Husky) and I have taken weekend trips from New Haven, CT to
Southern Vermont. When in the Green Mountains we camped and have enjoyed the
many hiking trails and the great fly fishing of rivers, streams, lakes and
ponds in the area. Then, in the spring of 2004 my husband and I saw a
wonderful opportunity and purchased the 1830 farmhouse and former Jo-Mary
motel. During the following months we did a number of renovations to the ca.
200 year old post and beam structures and opened the “Stone Boat Farm” as a
bed and breakfast just in time for fall foliage. You may wonder why we
called it the “Stone Boat Farm?” Well, during the last century simple sleds
consisting of iron skids and wood were built here to transport boulders and
stones for the farmers and homesteaders in the region, thus the name. The
remains of these historic artifacts can be found in the woods around our
farmhouse.

Our vision for the Stone Boat Farm is simple and straight forward. We want
to provide outdoor enthusiasts and budget-minded travelers with an
affordable place to relax after a day of outdoor activities. We are informal
and want guests to feel right at home. When guests arrive they will find
clean rooms and the refrigerator in the common room stocked with continental
breakfast items. We encourage “self-catering!” Guests can help themselves to
breakfast and are welcome to bring their own food for lunch or dinner,
storing it in the guest refrigerator and heating it up in the microwave. During
the warmer months, we encourage guests to bring food that they can barbeque
on our outdoor patio adjacent to the brook and pond.
Besides operating the Stone Boat Farm as B &B, I work full-time at Yale
University in New Haven, CT for an anthropological non-profit organization
called “Human Relations Area Files (see
www.yale.edu/hraf). My husband
(Yale '07 Ph.D.) researches the late Neolithic period of
China and is often busy working in China or conducting various research
projects.

To manage the Stone Boat Farm
without any additional help and balance this with our work and research at
Yale, we ask that our guests be somewhat self-sufficient. In addition, we are
environmentally conscious. We gladly change sheets and provide fresh
towels upon your request but we do not make a practice of doing this on a
daily basis. Fresh towels are always available for our guests in our linen
room. Please take a minute to read the below testimonials.
We hope to see you soon!

"Dear Stone Boat Farm, we enjoyed our first visit to your lovely inn and
look forward to returning in the future! Your muffins are delicious and the
room was very comfortable. We look forward to trying your nature trail in
warmer weather." Thanks, Anita, Alison and Natalie. November 2009.
"Dear Stone Boat Farm, thanks so much for a wonderful visit! We loved the
delicious maple muffins! Pikes Falls was beautiful--we would love to see it
in the summertime. Thanks again for your hospitality, and we hope to see you
again either here or in New Haven." Annie and Corrine, New York City/New
Haven, November 2009.
"Dear Chris and Geoff, it was such a pleasure to stay here. You are both
so helpful and generous. We will certainly recommend SBF to friends and
family who wish to visit the area. Best of luck with your research Geoff.
Happy New Year! Joe and Katie, New York/New Jersey, December 2009.
"Geoff and Chris, thank you so much for a lovely stay! The room was so
comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and you were so very kind and
helpful. We will be sure to pass the word to friends about Stone Boat Farm
and we will also be back to visit again. Hopefully during a weekend sometime
when we can meet Chris! Best to you both and thanks again. P.S. These
muffins were amazing. I ate two, Mike ate 3. The only reason we stopped was
to conserve some for the other guests!!! Mike and Karina, Long
Island, January 2010.
"Dear Geoff and Chris, we had a wonderful time staying at your home. The
rooms were cozy and comfortable and we love the organic products at
breakfast! Thank you for the white notebook and your guidance in planning
our trip yesterday! Hope to see you again soon! Dan and Rachael, Trumbull,
CT, January 2010.
"Dear Geoff, thanks for the lovely weekend--our time here was gold (not
pyrite!). Michael, Michael, Vicky and Laura.
"Dear Geoff and Chris, we had a wonderful time skiing and visiting nice
Vermont towns. Even better was your hospitality! Beata and Ed, Rutherford,
NY, January 2010.
"Dear Geoff, wish we had found the Stone Boat sooner! You are a great
host, and what a wonderful place to visit! We loved your trail. The
breakfast is healthy and satisfying and thanks for sharing your interesting
work with us! Jack and Jeanne, Bethlehem, CT, February 2010.
"Dear Geoff, thank you for your warm hospitality. We have really enjoyed
our stay. We hope to be back! Peace. Jamie and Sarah, Boston University,
February 2010.
"Dear Geoff, thanks so much for a great visit! The hike you recommended
was perfect--very beautiful, and just the right difficulty/rigor for us. We
slept really well last night, both from the comfort of the room, and the
tiredness of our bones...What a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Can't wait to be back! Kevin and Sarah, Cornell University, February 2010.
"Geoff, we have driven by the Stoneboat Inn many many times, since we
lived in Bondville for 10 years. We chose this inn above something "on the
mountain" and we are so happy we did. You are a wonderful thoughtful host
and we will return. Dick and Nancy, Debray Beach Florida (formerly
Bondville, Vermont), February 2010.
"Geoff and Chris, thanks, we had a very nice stay. We will be back and
will tell our friends about your inn. Wayne and Cindy, Coventry, CT,
February 2010.
